Zen Meditation

Traditionally, in China and Korea, only monks did Zen practice. But Zen has come to the West and here lay people practice Zen. This has changed the character of Zen. Now our teaching is about Zen in everyday life. Sitting Zen all the time is not possible for lay people. Everyday-life Zen means learning mind-sitting. Mind-sitting means not-moving mind. How do you keep not-moving mind? Put down your opinion, condition and situation moment-to-moment. When you are doing something, just do it.

This is everyday Zen. For lay people the teaching of great love, great compassion and the Great Bodhisattva Way is very important. To attain that, it is necessary to keep a not-moving mind, then correct situation, correct function, and correct relationship appear by themselves in everyday life.

There are various forms of meditation. Each technique has a special effect on the mind. The various techniques are discussed below.

Sound Healing

Tapping Yoga

One way to get your day started is by tapping. Tapping is a practice used in Dahn (Energy, Chi) Yoga as a way of awakening the body and increase the flow of blood.

First, you have to warm up—tap the lower abdomen to rid the body of tension and prepare yourself for the main movements and postures of the exercise. Depending on your yoga instructor’s directions, you might also find yourself tapping other parts of the body or doing variations of the technique, such as hip or knee bouncing to loosen up the joints and hand or feet clapping to boost circulation in the extremities.

While tapping may seem like an unusual technique to Westerners, it has long been used in the Eastern world as a holistic healing method. Along with freeing the body of tension, tapping benefits health in a wide variety of ways. For instance, it has been shown to ease pain and increase the flow of blood throughout the body, which can help you feel more vibrant and vitalized. Tapping also enhances energy by stimulating the chakras. In fact, when you tap all your chakras in the correct sequence, you can guide the flow of qi through your meridian channels.

Tapping can also help you better control your feelings by allowing you to release negative feelings like frustration, anger and sadness that you’ve been bottling up over time. By combining the technique with steady breathing exercises, self-acceptance and mindfulness, you can shed the damaging layers of stress and emotion that have been building up and weighing you down.

You start your yoga session by starting a tapping exercise focusing on the Dahnjoong—the meridian point found in the middle of the slight indentation in the center of the chest. This point is close to the middle Dahn-jon—the chakra located behind the heart. It’s highly sensitive to everyday anxiety and is, for that reason, effective at relieving stress and promoting emotional stability. By tapping the Dahnjoong at least 100 times and controlling your breath, you may experience tingling sensations in your chest and fingertips that are signs that stagnant energy is leaving your body.

With tapping exercises, you can reach a deeper connection with yourself as well as the world around you. However, as with any exercise, too much can be a bad thing. If you feel excessive pain beyond the normal signs of stiffness and energy blockage in the body, try lighter tapping or focusing on different parts of the body. People who suffer from medical conditions are advised to see a physician before starting any exercise routine.

Acupuncture

Contrary to popular Western belief, acupuncture is not just a system for inserting very fine needles into specific body locations to alleviate pain. So, what is acupuncture, then? Acupuncture is a complete medical protocol focused on correcting imbalances of energy in the body. From its inception in China more than 2,500 years ago, acupuncture has been used traditionally to prevent, diagnose and treat disease, as well as to improve general health.

The traditional explanation for acupuncture’s effectiveness is that it modifies the flow of energy (known as qi or chi) throughout the body. Pain relief is often experienced as one of the benefits of acupuncture. In fact, much research in the West has focused on this pain-relieving effect, rather than acupuncture’s traditional role of balancing energy to address a wide range of disorders, and the more subtle mechanisms that may be responsible for its overall benefits to health.

Constellation Healing Therapy

There are many energetic obstacles, (which we are unaware of), that affect our health, our career and our inter-personal relationships. Subconscious ties and loyalties exist in every aspect of our lives.

Chakra Balancing Activation Crystal Healing

Crystal Therapy is a fun and powerful way to support and accelerate your personal growth goals. The successful use of crystals and minerals for well-being have been documented for thousands of years. Even the Bible refers to Crystal Therapy as a completely natural alternative natural remedy for numerous ailments.

The sessions include a Consultation, Aromatherapy Cleansing, Crystal Energy Reading, and Chakra Balancing Activation. We also include support tools to take home with you, which hold the energy of the session throughout the treatment period.

this Crystal Therapy sessions work on the Subtle Energy plane. That means the treatments you will get, change you at the Foundational level – where you create your reality from. We take a specific goal you have, and I give you an energetic template that you “energize” into your life experience using Crystal Energy.

You will also be taught a practice that you can do between your sessions, to accelerate your movement towards permanently achieving your goal, and making it a permanent part of your life.

Gestalt Awareness Practice

Gestalt is a contemporary form of personal exploration and integration developed by Dick Price at the Esalen Institute. The objective of the practice is to become more fully aware of the process of living within a unified field of body, mind, relationship, earth and spirit.

Gestalt is a German word that denotes form, shape or configuration, and connotes wholeness. Practice is an ongoing program or process of development. Gestalt Practice is an ongoing process of integrating human awareness across a broad spectrum of consciousness.

Gestalt Practice was the term he used to describe his combination of these Eastern and Western traditions. This term distinguished the practice Dick Price taught from both Gestalt therapy and Buddhist practice.

Somatic awareness may be the focus of Gestalt exercises. Awareness of breathing is emphasized because it promotes immediate experience of the body.

Interpersonal relationship practices may be used in Gestalt Practice to clarify communications, improve relationship skills, and enhance empathy. A neutral moderator may assist with interpersonal encounters, although this is not necessary, in keeping with the Gestalt Practice principle of equality among participants.

Dreamwork is a common Gestalt awareness practice, in which enactment and integration of dream elements are favored. An initiator of Gestalt dreamwork intentionally re-experiences their dream as if it were happening in the present. The initiator then assumes the role of various dream elements, and enters into a dialogue with whatever is encountered in the dream. This approach is borrowed from the Gestalt therapy model.

Meditation practices, derived from many different contemplative traditions, may be used by Gestalt practitioners. Buddhism provides many useful models for mindfulness and compassion practice; and some of these have been adapted to complement the objectives of Gestalt Practice.

Taoism, as it was expressed by Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching, provides a non-judgmental backdrop for non-intervention with an initiator’s process, allowing whatever happens in a Gestalt work session to unfold naturally in the present moment. In addition, Taoism reinforces the reverence for nature that is typical of Gestalt Practice.

These techniques, and many others beyond the ambit of therapy, are regularly used in Gestalt Practice – all with the same objectives of enhanced awareness, spiritual growth, and respect for the natural environment.

The Quantum Light Breath is a highly focused breathing meditation process that greatly accelerates the user’s personal transformation by bypassing the conscious mind and releasing old programs directly from the subconscious. It basically eliminates the need for analysis, painful emotional experiences, years of therapy or growth groups and unfruitful meditations.

It usually takes the user into an expanded state of consciousness. Universal love is experienced as a reality and not as an unreachable concept. There is a deep connection to the Universal Intelligence.

Essential Oil Healing on Acupuncture Points

We will be offering essential oils placed on acupuncture points for the purpose of relaxation, grounding, and tension release during the meditation and sounding portion of the workshop. The oils will be applied with a fine tipped q-tip and no needling will be involved, and we will hold the q-tips onto the points with intention for a minute or so.  Essential oils applied to the body are immediately absorbed into your system and affects the brain by stimulating the limbic system and the hypothalamus.  We hope you enjoy this special treatment!

Sensory Awareness

Moment by moment, as we go through our lives, we are called to respond to changes. Even on very basic organismic levels we are always in a dynamic relationship with the world. Well-being calls for presence and willingness to change. Discord sets in when we try to resist change and hold on to what we believe to be ours.

Through sensory awareness we explore the natural tendencies of life to interact and to find balance. We do so with very simple explorations in standing, walking, sitting, and lying. At times we very quietly attend to the subtleties of breathing, at other times interact with other people or objects – allowing natural responses rather than imposing our will onto the world.

Sensory Awareness is a profound practice, helping to reintegrate the many facets of life. It is a cleansing process for all senses, reconnecting us with the organism’s innate tendency to balance and heal. Sensory Awareness is working with everyday life activities: walking and sitting, approaching another person,listening, etc.

Mindful Eating

Ayurveda, the lesser-known sister science of yoga, is essentially a system of understanding the energy within and around us, so that we can employ diet, physical practices and other tools to bring us into a state of greater balance and more harmonious being. Likewise, mindful eating is a powerful tool for transformation. It helps us to recognize the many people and conditions that make the gift of food possible, and we also come into a deeper relationship with ourselves, as we learn what is truly necessary for us to feel nourished and fulfilled.

Tai Chi

Taichi Ch’uan, sometimes called meditation in motion, sometimes called Chinese Yoga, originated in China hundreds of years ago. It has been taught throughout the world as exercise, meditation and a martial art.

Taichi is largely known in the west for its health benefits. The practice of Taichi is widely acknowledged for its improvement in the practitioner’s strength, balance and coordination, of the physical self, as well as enhancement of the mind’s powers of concentration, will and relaxation.

The fluid movement and emphasis on breathing create an environment in the body in which the Chi, or energy, is circulated, leaving the practitioner energized, rather than exhausted at the end of practice.

We are inviting you to experience the magical transformation guided by Grandmaster of 51 years experience in teaching, we are going to explore 6 and 8 dimensional exercises to work on each organ of the body and to balance the energy field. It’s a very unique technique developed by the Grandmaster that will include Qigong (to warm up the body), Katas (also called “dance”) and Chi power exercises to improve strength and better balance, reduce pain and stiffness, enhance the work of all organs of the body. 

Drum Circle and Kirtan Chanting

This part of the retreat is intended to introduce and improve in the individual, the quality of Singing voice, the ability to play Percussion rhythms, get into a deeper mindful experience with a series of Energizing exercises and Interactive Free Flow movement, and completing with a joyful Dynamic meditation with live music. 

Ricardo is bringing many instruments to the retreat so we will all have an opportunity not only to enjoy the music but also to learn how to play the drums!

WORLD PERCUSSION RHYTHMs allow you to focus on the development of the rhythm sense and practical skills, through hand drumming and loop audio examples from ancient ethnic cultures, featuring: India, Mideastern region, Africa, Europe, North, Central and South America.

Some exercises are inspired from the Meredith Monk ‘Singing Body, Dancing Voice’ technique: coordinating the movement of fingers, hands, feet and limbs from the center of our being, walking and singing, clapping hands rhythmically along with the feet, walk, jump; introducing mindful Interactive Free Flow collective movement.

This part of the workshop involves Breathing exercises, Mantra chanting and a few guidance instructions, in order to induce deep, relaxing calmness, concentration and contemplation states of mind. Once these steps have been accomplished, a joyful meditative state of consciousness becomes as a natural consequence. It is accompanied by live music especially designed for the Dynamic Musical Meditation experience. 

Soul Motion (Movement Therapy)

Soul Motion™ is a conscious dance practice designed by Vinn Arjuna Martí offering a leadership path both on and off the dance floor. Using guided movement inquiries, teachings, and periods of open dance passages students discover their creative artistry by way of dance relationships, and cultivation of the still point in the moving center.

Dance Intimate, Dancing alone we renew our relationship with the body as a shifting shape in space. Dance Communion, Inspired by interior impulses, sensations, and images the dancer begins to relate and communicate outwardly. Dance Community, As dancers begin to move in ever widening circles, they receive and transmit information and inspiration to the larger dance happening all around them. Dance Infinite, What happens in the dance room is a template for the everyday dance in the living world. We move out from the dance room sensing our environment more clearly, communicating with others with enhanced perception, and relaxing more readily with the challenges and obstacles that may dance before us.

Yoga

Kate Duyn Cariati will be sharing a two hour Lotus Flow yoga practice that begins and ends with meditation, pranayama and mantra. A thorough and thoughtful warm up will include sneak peaks into the apex poses to come.

Heat building in the form of creative Namaskars will get your body moving rhythmically with the breath and lead you into more challenging standing poses with longer holds. Arm-balancing, an inversion, and generous heart and hip-opening come together in a very balanced and well-rounded experience. A devotional quality with playful investigation pervade as this practice will be honoring the energy of the great Hindu remover of obstacles, beloved Ganesha.
